A manager of the advertising department is a person who is responsible for the advertising activities going on in a company or a business organization. He can either be given the task of managing the in-house advertising procedures or managing the external advertisement agencies working in association with the company. The career in advertising is challenging but promises higher rewards with time. This job profile demands a tough personality with a command on advertising management.

Job Profile

Planning, creating and executing advertising strategy and supervising the concerned departments thereafter are the major tasks involved in managing the advertising department. Implementing the desired advertising campaigns in time, estimating budget for advertising and campaigning, and; approving the advertising material to be published are the main work areas of a person into advertising management.

Taking quick decisions, executing the advertising plan and solving the problems during the whole process are essentially a part of this job. A direct public dealing and client dealing is also involved to a large degree. Building strong public relations and maintaining them on a long term basis forms a large part of this demanding job profile.

Professional Qualifications

A strong sales and marketing background or advertising and public relations background is required depending on the target industry of the individual. In general, a degree in advertising, public relations, marketing, media or management is preferred by the employers.

Sound knowledge of management principles and fundamentals of office administration are of great help in advertising management. Besides, a spark of creativity, design sense, computer knowledge and command on English language act as the efficient tools in this job. Work experience is preferable but not compulsory.


Required Skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a brimming creativity ideally describe the professional skills of an advertising manager . Active listening, a strong inclination towards reading and writing, oral comprehension and deductive reasoning are some other attributes to be acquired by the advertising professionals. The one who adheres to logical and critical thinking, quick decision making and time management is the most able person to make a career in advertising management.
