Businesses can put their 'ad-links' directly into the hands of consumers, who can earn money as affiliates for sending texts to friends.

Gtext Media, a mobile marketing company based in Essex, today launches a mobile app technology that gives businesses an entirely new way to put their brands onto the phone screens of potentially millions of consumers - essentially anyone who regularly receives text messages - while also paying consumers who send texts a fee for sending their messages to family and friends. Even before the official launch date, 220,000 people have registered to use the app.

Text messaging - texting - is the preferred way of communicating in the UK, according to a survey conducted by MDA in 2009, which found that the nation's 75 million mobile phone subscribers sent more than 256 million texts a day.

Mobile marketing is not new but has hitherto been based around browser-based banner ads and opt-in SMS 'push' services. The Gtext Media app does neither of these. Instead, Gtext Media advertising is part of the actual text conversation ('conversation advertising'): once a text sender has registered, the advertising is actually embedded as a link into the body of the text. The sender is paid as an 'affiliate' and the recipient sees an additional embedded link in the message.

Says Aimes Bositampen, founder and CEO of Gtext Media: "The value of mobile as a marketing medium is well established but until now there has been no means for advertisers to engage directly with users during their most popular mobile pastime: texting. Gtext Media changes all that."

The payment model is on a pay-per-click basis: registered users - affiliates - are paid on the basis of the number of texts they convert into traffic for advertisers, who pay only for 'click-throughs' to their sites.

Aimes Bositampen continues: "Gtext Media is perfect for any business that wishes to engage directly with consumers. It can keep them informed of new product launches, one-off events, offers or promotions, and provide general brand awareness. Ad-links can lead to anything from simple, quick value-messages to games and other interactive experiences that make click-throughs seem thoroughly worthwhile for the consumer."

Because texting is instant communication, with the prospect of instant satisfaction, Gtext Media is perfect for immediate, real-time offers, events and competitions. Advertisers can choose to target consumers in certain geographic areas and can view detailed demographic information to help define an ad-link campaign. Users can click on the ad-link and, for example, download discount coupons and vouchers that they can then use in a particular nearby outlet: for example, to obtain a cheap restaurant meal or cinema tickets.

There is also a subtle but important value in the fact that the sender of a text knows the recipient. Aimes Bositampen again: "Because the ad-links arrive as part of a conversation between two people who know each other, there is a certain degree of recommendation or endorsement involved: the link hasn't come from a third party but a trusted friend or family member."

Gtext Media is adding a thoroughly new dimension to the real-time, targetable benefits of mobile advertising, reaching consumers in a more direct and personal setting than ever before.

Jean-Louis Bositampen, COO, concludes: "Text messaging has broken so many communication barriers in our 21st century culture: companies that are serious about reaching their target audience simply cannot underestimate the power of the text. According to the Internet Advertising Bureau, 40% of consumers reach for their mobile when they see an interesting ad and, even in this era of Facebook and Twitter, SMS is used as a primary social messaging tool because of its simplicity and ubiquity.
Our app will change the way advertisers connect to consumers: they don't have to reach for the mobile: they're already on it, in their favourite communications medium. Our service combines the subtleties of viral marketing with the pay-per-click model and applies it to all popular mobiles and smartphones across all UK networks."

The app is available on Gtextmedia.com from today and users are invited to download it free of charge to their iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia or Android phones.
